Application and license requirements

Analytics Explorer requires the following:

  1. A separate Analytics Explorer license.

There are two types of licenses available: standalone and network. At least one license is required to connect to use Analytics Explorer.

A standalone license is installed on your local machine. For information on standalone licensing, see Activating / deactivating licenses.

A network license is installed on a network server and Analytics Explorer must request a seat from the network server. If you want to work offline, a network license can be checked out as a commuter and is accounted for in the network license seat count. After you are finished working offline, you can check your commuter in, and release the seat. For information on setting up network licensing, see the IHS Markit Installation Guide and License Manager help (both links open in a new window / tab).

The Analytics Explorer license enables access to the Kingdom Connector, the Harmony Connector, and the advanced analytics workflows and data sources. For information on how licenses are checked out when using Analytics Explorer and S&P Global applications, see License usage scenarios.

If you are currently using an Analytics Explorer license and there are no remaining licenses, in order to check out a commuter license, you may need to first close all instances of Spotfire.

  1. Local installation of the TIBCO Spotfire client, Desktop, or Analyst.

If you already have Spotfire, you can use that along with the installation of Analytics Explorer. Otherwise, you can purchase Spotfire from us and those installations will be included in the download packages. You can have the Spotfire Desktop and Analyst clients installed on the same computer, but the last-installed version is the one that launches when starting Analytics Explorer from Harmony Enterprise or Kingdom.

For both Spotfire Desktop and Analyst, only versions 7.14 or later are supported.

  • Spotfire Desktop client: Desktop version. This will be installed directly on your desktop.
  • Spotfire Analyst client: Server version. The Spotfire server administrator needs to update the server with the Analytics Explorer files. Instructions are in the download package.
  1. Installation of Analytics Explorer

The installation of Analytics Explorer includes the connectors for both Kingdom and Harmony Enterprise. The application connectors allow you to select the project data that you want to view in Spotfire.

License usage scenarios

After activating your license for Analytics Explorer (AE), you can load / view data from Kingdom, Harmony Enterprise, DNA, and a standalone SQL / PostgreSQL database. Note the following usage scenarios:

Start Spotfire and open AE by clicking Analytics Explorer.

Analytics Explorer advanced analytics tools

Uses an AE license. You can have multiple instances of Spotfire open with a single license.

DNA requires a separate license and login.

SQL / PostgreSQL databases: does not use any extra licenses but login credentials are required.

The three advanced analytics tools — Principal Component analysis, Machine Learning Predictions, and Run Machine Learning Model — can be run on the DNA table, the standalone SQL or PostgreSQL databases, or the application tables (Kingdom or Harmony).

To use this functionality, an AE license is used.

Start Spotfire and open AE by clicking Analytics Explorer.

Start Kingdom and export data to Spotfire.
