Analytics Explorer CO2 - EOR Screener Workflow

To open the Analytics Explorer EDIN CO2 EOR Screener, in Spotfire select Analytics Explorer > SP Global Content > EDIN CO2 EOR Screener.

The purpose of the CO2-EOR dashboards is to identify depleted oil reservoirs suitable for miscible CO2-EOR, and to provide estimated potential recovery through analytical probabilistic curves that describe factors influencing potential CO2 stoarage.

The Screener dialog box contains 4 sections:

Data Source

The 2 tables required for analysis are the tables containing the reservoir data and the emissions data. By default these two tables are mapped to the EDIN Reservoirs and EDIN Emissions tables. However, you can also select your own tables and map the columns.

Reservoir Screening Parameters.

Parameters used to screen reservoirs for their suitability of enhanced oil recovery using CO2 injection.

The %HCPV parameter is in relation to the reservoir pore volume, but you can inject more CO2 + H20 in the reservoir than the pore volume space because you are producing hydrocarbons at the same time of injection. Hence a percentage greater than 100.

Reservoir Analysis Parameters

Parameters used to identify facilities around the reservoir suitable for the purchased carbon. Click the information icon for a definition of each parameter.

Emissions Source Analysis Parameters

Parameters used to identify nearby reservoirs with available carbon for purchase. Click the information icon for a definition of each parameter.

As a starting point, defaults are provided for all parameters as displayed in the figure below. For background on these parameters, see Parameter Considerations.

Where:

  • Sink = anything, natural or otherwise, that accumulates and stores carbon-containing chemical compounds thereby removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

  • A = Ratio of potential storage of an oil reservoir with respect to the size of the CO2 emitter

  • D = Depth

  • W = Weighting factor

For the list of equations that use these parameters, see the whitepaper CO2-EOR as a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Method

These parameters determine the visualizations in the respective dashboards:

If you hover over the title of each graph in a dashboard, you will see a set of controls that can be very useful:
