Coordinate Converter
Most mapping tools require data in a projected coordinate reference system (CRS). If your data is in a geographic reference system (GRS) measured in latitude and longitude, this tool allows you to convert the lat long coordinates to your choice of projected CRS (and vice versa). In addition, if you want to integrate data from multiple sources for display on a common map, you will need to convert all source data to a common projected CRS.
Analytics Explorer workflows that require XY locations include distance grids, well spacing, and flex gridding.
To access the Coordinate Converter, right-click in the table and select IHS Markit Analytics Explorer > Coordinate Converter.
See the following examples.
Example 1 - Adding Harmony data to the map
Harmony data is in geographic coordinates (Lat Long), but the Coordinate Converter makes it simple to add Harmony data to the map.
-
In the table requiring conversion, right-click and select IHS Markit Analytics Explorer > Coordinate Converter.
-
Select the required source and target data formats, coordinate systems, and locations columns. Note that the Harmony coordinate systems are placed at the top of the list for both geographic and projected systems. When converting from geographic to projected, the matching Harmony EPSG from the source is at the top of the list. You can enter any key term in the Search box at the top of the list to narrow your search.
-
Calculated columns will be added/merged to the table.
-
Click OK to begin the calculations.
Example 2 - Changing the projected coordinate reference system
My incoming data (Source) is in a different projected CRS than my current map, so I need to convert the incoming data to the map CRS (Target).
Two columns are added to the result table: X1, and Y1 assigned by UWI. These columns are the XY coordinates in the target reference system.
