Spotfire templates and visualizations

Templates

When you install Analytics Explorer, the templates for Kingdom, Harmony, and DNA are installed to C:\ProgramData\IHS Markit\Analytics Explorer into respective application folders. You can copy the template files to any directory to which you have access.

If you are using Spotfire Analyst, contact your Spotfire server administrator for the templates which are included in the download file.

Templates are provided to help you begin your data analysis. If you make changes to the template, you cannot overwrite the original templates in the default directory. You must Save as a different name.

The best way to understand the templates is to connect to a data source that you know well and browse through the visualizations. When opening a Kingdom or Harmony template, the data, other than the borehole list, is preselected. Just select your well list or subset and click Load.

Visualizations

Spotfire employs a variety of visualization types to provide multiple ways to analyze your data:

  • Tables: Cross, Graphical, Summary
  • Charts: Bar, Line, Combination, Pie, KPI
  • Plots: Scatter, 3D Scatter, Parallel Coordinate, Box
  • Maps: Heat Maps, Map Charts

From the Spotfire main menu select Help > Help Topics for an introduction to the user interface and links to examples of each visualization type.

When you select, or “Mark” data in one of the views, all views update to highlight just the marked data.

For example, on the Well Information tab, if you select an operator in the bottom right Treemap, the histograms and geographic map all update to display only wells operated by the selected operator.

Filtering works the same way. For example, if you filter your data to view wells that have perforations within a specified depth range, all views update.
