Petra Licensing

Overview

Petra supports two types of licenses:

Network

A network license requires a dedicated computer to act as the license server, and the installation of two network licensing tools: one to install and manage the network licenses, and a service to provide applications access to the installed licenses. If you are the license administrator, see "IHS Markit Installation Guide" for information.

With a network license users can check out commuter licenses to enable work outside of the company network or when offline.

Standalone

A standalone license does not require a license manager. With a standalone license, you retrieve licenses from the EMS (Entitlement Management System).

Both license types:

  • Read the license file matched to a unique computer ID eliminating the need for a hardware dongle.
  • Allow multiple users to access the same project (as different authors in the project) at the same time.

New customers

When your new account is set up, the primary contact at your company will receive an Entitlement Certificate email. The certificate contains a list of your company’s entitlements, and an Entitlement ID (EID) which is required to download the software and get the license(s).

Existing customers

Log in to the EMS using the EID you have already been issued. Your EID does not change unless you are issued a new Entitlement Certificate. If you don’t have your EID contact customer care.

Licensing.exe

Both network and standalone licenses are managed on a user’s computer using Petra’s licensing tool Licensing.exe. The default location for Licensing.exe is:

  • The system path for Client/Server installations on the network file share.

  • C:\Geoplus1 directory for standalone local installations.

Verifying license Information

Once activated, the status and dates of your license can be viewed from:

  • Project information dialog—Main: Help > Project file info...

  • Help about dialog—Main: Help > About Petra
