Selecting and Displaying Layers

You can display any data source available in Spatial Explorer as a layer on the Spatial Explorer map. You can also drag and drop data from the Kingdom Project Explorer into Spatial Explorer to display on the Spatial Explorer map.

For more information about the data sources you can display in Spatial Explorer, see Adding Data Sources. The table below summarizes the main tasks you can perform related to selecting and displaying data layers on the Spatial Explorer map.

Action Instruction

Select a data layer

Select the data source in the Data Source list, or in Kingdom, drag and drop from Project Explorer onto the Data Source pane.

Change layer order

In the Layers list, drag and drop layers in the order you want.

Turn a layer off or on

Click the Data Type icon for a layer to turn map display for that layer on and off. Click  or to display all layers, and click Display layer icon to hide all layers.

Layer Settings
Show Legend
Remove

The gear icon beside each layer name provides the following actions: Display settings, Show Legend, Remove.

Spatial Explorer adds layers to the Layers list on top of each other, so each new layer you add is added at the top of the list. The order of layers in the Layers list defines the display order, meaning that data layers at the top of the list display on top of any layers that are lower in the list. You can drag and drop items in the Layers list to change the display order.

If you add a layer containing Kingdom or Harmony well data, Spatial Explorer automatically adds an additional layer containing deviation survey data for the wells in the layer you added (if none of the wells have deviation survey data then this additional layer will not contain any data).

If you remove an item from the Layers list by deleting it or by clearing the check box for that layer in the Data Source list, and then add the layer back to the Layers list, Spatial Explorer adds that layer at the top of the list, not where it was located originally. If you want to turn a layer off without losing its position in the display order, click the Data Type icon () for that layer. For more information about data icons, see Data Layer Icons.

If you deselect a layer from the Data Source list, any display settings you customized are lost. However, if you click the Data Type icon, the layer can be hidden but the data settings are retained.
