Moving wells on a quarter section (Kingdom only)
After you have created a quarter section on the Spatial Explorer map, you can use it to move an existing well. You can automatically snap a well to a grid location on the quarter section or you can manually place the well based on the quarter section. The steps to do this are very similar to creating a new well by manual location or snapping to the grid. You can move a well by its surface location, its bottomhole location, or you can move both the surface and bottomhole locations at the same time. You cannot move wells with a locked location and if you are moving a deviated well, you can only move wells with two-point deviation surveys.

- Make the data layer containing the well you want to move the active layer.
- Select the icon on the Move Well toolbar corresponding to how you want to move the well (by surface location
, by bottomhole location
, or by both surface and bottomhole location
).
- Click on the well you want to relocate.
- If you want to snap the cursor to the quarter section grid, Press and hold F3.
- Click on the grid intersection you want.
- If you are moving the well by bottomhole location, Spatial Explorer moves the bottomhole location, leaves the surface location where it is, and draws a new 2-point deviation survey between the two points.
- If you are moving the well by surface location, Spatial Explorer moves the surface location, leaves the bottomhole location where it is, and draws a new 2-point deviation survey between the two points. Spatial Explorer prompts you to accept this default or
- If you are moving both the surface and bottomhole locations, click once to place the surface location, then click again where you want to place the bottomhole location.
Keep in mind that there is no automatic undo of the well move. If you relocate a well in error, you will have to move the well again to its correct location.

- Make the data layer containing the well you want to move the active layer.
- Select
on the Move Well toolbar.
- Click on the well you want to relocate. The Move Well by Descriptive Location window opens.
- Pick from the available methods for locating a well manually to move the well. The steps for manually moving a well location are almost the same as manually creating a new well by descriptive location. For more information, including specific steps, see Manually spotting a well by descriptive location. You can click Preview to check your new well location.
- Click Apply to relocate the well.
Note: The steps for moving a well by descriptive location using the surface location only or botthomhole location only are the same as creating a well by surface location. Moving a well by descriptive location using both the surface and bottomhole locations is similar to creating a well by surface location except you need to specify a descriptive location for both the surface and the bottomhole location. If you select one of the options to move the well proportionally, the well maintains the same distance and azimuth between the surface and bottomhole locations. Select Surface and Bottom Proportional if your well symbols display at the surface location, and select Bottom and Surface Proportional if your well symbols display at the bottomhole location.
