Spatial Explorer

Using geospatial data can help you add context for well query and visualization to support better decision-making for your projects. This data can come from web services (such as WMS, ESRI Map Services, or ESRI Feature Services), local files (such as shape files and geodatabases), and spatial databases (such as SDE). Spatial Explorer works with Kingdom and Harmony projects as part of our Geology, Geoscience and Engineering (GG&E) suite of products.

You can use Spatial Explorer to select, organize, and format the data you want to display in map format, and then create and print high resolution maps to share this data with others.

See the video Spatial Explorer Overview on The Learning Center.

SPG provides a number of map services that you can use in Spatial Explorer to visualize data. For more information about how to use SPG map services, including a list of currently available services, see Map Services Directory.

With Spatial Explorer you can:

Add data sources

  • Add map services, feature services, geodatabases, shape files, spatial databases, and Kingdom and Harmony project data as map layers
  • Directly access Portal for ArcGIS (version 10.9) to retrieve multiple map services.
  • Add GeoTiff, Tiff, and JPG files as map layers

Settings

  • Specify decimal settings for well labels and symbol settings.

Select and display layers

  • Select data layers for display on the map
  • Change the data layer order on the map
  • Turn the display of layers on and off as needed
  • Set the active layer for data selection

Set layer properties

  • Change layer opacity
  • Modify label properties, such as font, color, size, position, positioning rules, and display priority
  • Change line color, style and weight
  • Change fill color
  • Change color bars and color bar transparency
  • Select what data is labeled on the map
  • Save and re-use label templates
  • Define a visibility scale

Use the map display

  • Zoom in and out to change map extent
  • Use selection rectangle to determine map extent

Save data

  • Identify and save map data using a variety of selection tools
  • (Kingdom only) Create spatial queries

Create presentation maps

  • Create, save, and re-use map layouts
  • Print high-resolution maps

Create rulers and planimeter polygons

  • Digitize single and multi-segment rulers to measure distance
  • Digitize polygons to measure area

Spatial Explorer opens in the context of the project bounds, but is not limited to this view.
